Our purpose is to encourage innovative scholarship engaging with the field of the history of sociology—a field we feel is essential to the profession and yet is currently not given any formal placement in college and university curricula. We also seek to encourage scholarship in the history of social thought, a scholarly effort that is often dismissed within mainstream social science.

Our conception of important work in the history of sociology & social thought is broad, ranging from developments in theory and methods (e.g. the rise of conflict theory to a central place within the discipline, or the heightened prestige of mathematical representation in an era of increasing computer power) to the impacts of changing demographics and university cultures on priorities for scholarship.
